Faith or Joke?

21 Aug

These past days i’ve been thinking a lot about faith, religion and why we people do certain stuff. I’ve been raised as a catholic, and i was quite happy with going to church every sunday and so on, til something happened and i started to change my mind and my point of view, not my faith. Also i was always the kind of person that questions almost everything, i’m curious about everything too and that made me have a mind of my own since very young. I respect other people’s choices, but certain things just make me very angry and dissapointed at the same time.

So, millions of youngsters from all over the world spend their money in some low cost trip (considering the discount on flights, the free accomodation in colleges, 80% discount in transport and tickets for 3 meals per day) in visiting another country and suffer the heat to be walking around and collapsing the public transport for a week…oh and getting drunk in parks!!! Sounds good, doesnt it?

I would be very happy with that, done it myself but…these people are supposed to be moved by their faith and their religous ideas, and are also supposed to believe in a guy that preaches stuff that scares me sometimes.

I know i said i respected other people’s ideas, and i do but…honestly, if Jesus could talk to them, don’t you think he’d rather the millions of euros spent in the Pope’s visit to be spent in feeding the hungry, buying medicines or helping those who suffer, those who see their kids die just because they can’t drink clean water?

And i also doubt the motivations of some of these youngsters, when they see a homeless guy beggin in the street, and they sit 4 meters from him to eat like 20 pizzas without even giving him a portion. Makes me wanna puke.

And all this payed with public money and tax refunds, while people are kicked out of their houses because they cannot afford their mortgage.

Finally they left, and i really hope things change in the minds of those who think they are good enough to tell others how to live their lives. Not sure of the english expression, but they should live like they preach.

Enuff said ;p

Turn off the tv and read a book

8 Aug

Yesterday i saw something on tv that socked me and made me wonder how will the future be when the teenagers of today become the adults of tomorrow.

This tv reporter was on the street, asking foreigners that were in the process to get the spanish nationality questions about Spain concerning history, culture, artists…ecc. They replied correctly most questions.

But, when she asked some spanish teenagers…the result was scary. Not only they didn’t know how many communities we have but, when asked about our civil war they replied stuff like:

– What war?

– Oh yes, civil war was between Spain and France (ermmm what part of CIVIL war you don’t understand?)

Then they thought 12th October was the anniversary of a football match between Spain and Malta, and that is why it is a National Holiday: because we won.

Not to mention i am sure most of them don’t even write spanish properly…how are they suppossed to learn another language?

Suddenly i felt embarrassed and, at the same time, very sorry for them. I do love internet and computers, and i do watch tv sometimes too, but i also enjoy reading a good book, watching a film, reading a newspaper to know what’s going on in the rest of the world…

And in other countries it’s not much better i believe. Still remember when some guy from Canada told me Barcelona is the capital of Spain, and many north americans think Spain is next to Mexico…

I am thankful for the education i received, both at school and from my parents. Even the television was better!!!

Hoping i am dead before those idiotized teenagers get to rule the world, i’ll leave you with a tribute to the tv show that trained my imagination when i was a kid. They said stuff like. turn off the tv and read a book. Those were the days when tv taught kids useful stuff, opened their imagination and their minds…

And yes, i’ll post some new fashion pics tomorrow.

Common People

3 Jul

One thing i’ve noticed about Second Life is that is has become a hideout for many, a place where they can be someone or something else or, what is more important, a place to be themselves without being scared of people judging them. And i am really glad some have found happiness here.

Furries, goreans, dwarves, elves, shemales and even child avies. I must say i am against child like avies because i don’t like the idea of an adult pretending he’s a kid. Call me old fashioned. But that is not what i want to write about today.

This availabily to create a character allows a few people to play some kind of role that has nothing to do with their real personality or that is how they really feel inside but never had the chance to express it in their real lives. And there’s is nothing wrong with it…unless you are doing it to be “cool” to others. Playing a role to please others in a virtual world when you can be anything else that makes YOU happy is a mistake some make too often.

I’ve seen average heterosexual women playing the role of a male trans, or even joke about being a nymphomaniac, or having “exotic” sexual preferences. And i repeat, there is nothing wrong with being a nymph, trans, or anything if that is really what YOU feel like or are on the inside. But i think pretending it just because you think it’s “cool” is wrong. I am glad to have friends of all kinds and conditions both in Second Life and Real Life, and some of them had a hard time dealing with their different ways of enjoying and living their sexuality. This is why pisses me off that someone thinks it’s funny for example being a nymphomanic when actually it is nothing fun at all.

This said, i’ll leave you this vid. The lyrics apply very well to how i feel now:

Sometimes

14 Jun

Sometimes, not knowing exactly why, i am happy as i could be. I smile all day, no matter what happens or the worries and problems i might have, i just smile and go on with renewed strenght.
Sometimes you just wake up too sensitive, or too silly, or just too vulnerable and the most simple things can make you cry or feel sad.
Sometimes i look at the mirror and absolutely love what i see, specially since i am more conscient of what i eat and the posibilities i have of changing what i don’t exactly fancy about me.
Sometimes too not all the make up in the world can make you see yourself pretty, forgetting that truely beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Sometimes i wonder how certain people could make it to be adults and have a job and a quite normal life without a single brain cell alive. Seriously.
Sometimes, in the hardest circumstances, amazes me how true talent and intelligence can shine through anything. Unfortunately this is extremely rare, but everytime i see it i have faith in humankind.
Sometimes we can work hard to achieve our goals, our dreams…and we get knocked out by how hard life can be, we sink in our own problems when sometimes the way out is so simple it’s silly.
And sometimes, only sometimes, in the middle of an ordinary life love gives us a fairytale.

And this is why i still believe…

Burning bridges

12 May

The hardest thing in life is to know which bridge to cross and which to burn. (David Russell)

It is weird how in just a second, with just a sms, things can change so quick, so bad, and so with no chance of ever being the same.
We usually tend to trust the people we love, and we give anything that’s in our hands to help that person, always looking for what we think it’s best for them. The thing is, this doesn’t necessarily match what they want for themselves.
So, if you see a person you love that’s about to sink in quicksands…but she refuses to hold your hand and get out of there…what can you do?
And, if while trying to help that person, she threatens you hitting you with a branch or throwing stones at you?
Should you just stand there watching her sink or hit her head and force her to get outof there?

I don’t know if i made the right choice, but i chose to wait and hope she opens her eyes and sees for herself the way out of there. And, once she makes the decission, i will for sure be there.

For now, i am burning bridges to protect myself, hoping we can build a new one someday.

The Scorpion and the Frog

31 Mar

As some of you may know, i’ve always loved fables and short stories. It’s great how a very very short story can teach so much with just a few words.
In this occassion, Aesop’s “The Scorpion and the Frog” goes perfect with what happened the other day in Second Life, that scarily reminds me of one of my Real Life best friends.

The Scorpion and the Frog

A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The frog asks, “How do I know you won’t sting me?” The scorpion says, “Because if I do, I will die too.”

The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp “Why?”

Replies the scorpion: “Its my nature…”

Sometimes frogs are attracted to scorpions. Scorpions are strong, shiny, dangerous…that kind of bad boy look that many many frogs fall for.
The frog falls in love with the scorpion, she is soo happy and feels so proud: how can i be so lucky to have such a beautiful scorpion by my side? They are together, they have fun, and the frog thinks things are too nice and sweet to be true. The scorpion sometimes hurts the frog, he has to keep his sting in shape he says, she feels hurted but understands. After all, he loves me, i am his frog, why would he be with me if he didn’t love me? So she forgets and forgives.

Sometimes a frog can be smart enough to leave the dangerous dude and follow her way safely, but most times they get caught, like a fly in a spiderweb.
Sooner or later the scorpion will sting the frog so bad they will both sink in some stream, no matter how many times the dude says he can change.

Please frogs, stay away from scorpions…it’s in their nature!

What is beauty for you?

28 Mar

Beauty: a word everyone knows but, if you ask people, not many can describe beauty with words. Is beauty tangible or does it belong to the world of the subconscience?
I personally can find beauty in practically anything, but would have a hard time describing why things or even people are beautiful to me.
Studies say there are certain facial features that most people find pretty: symetric face, big eyes, yummy lips, long legs, soft skin… but still, beauty is so subjective i totally agree that it is “in the eye of the beholder. However, in every country, rich and poor, cultured and ignorants have been seeking for beauty, everyone has tried or tries to fit in that concept of beauty our social environment tells us is the right one. Gazillions of euros, dollars or whatever currency you want have been invested in looking better: make up, hair dressers, gyms, clothes, cosmetics and other beauty treatments, plastic surgery…

In my oppinion it is healthy trying to look pretty or at least trying to look better using whatever tools are availble for you. Like any woman i know, and also a few men, i spend quite a lot of time trying to improve myself. Dieting, exercising and so is healthy yes, but not if you get obsessed with it. We should keep in mind that we’re all unique and that noone has to fit in any prototype.

Take a second to think: everyone you liked look the same? everything you find beautiful fits the same style? Probably not, or at least i hope so, because otherwise you’d be missing the spice of life!!

Thinking of it, beauty always shines through everything, you just need to keep your eyes open…

Big in Japan

26 Mar

Lately we’ve all heard in the news about Japan and the tragedy japanese people are living now. My best wishes and biggest hopes for them. I am sure, as strong and hard working as they are, soon they will be reborn.

All this said, when the other day Jops suggested to visit the Second Life version of Japan thought it would be a great idea to see how someone portrayed the real country in a virtual world. Said and done, we headed to explore this great sim.

Here’s Jops enjoying the sunset views.

I’ve never been to Japan but, for what i can tell, whoever created the sim did an awesome job. You can find typical stores, clubs, houses…aswell as some secret hideouts and even a submarine nightclub!

Yay duty free!!!!!

The only bad thing is the lag is awful, we were lucky it was almost empty during our visit, i don’t want to imagine if more than let’s say 10 people want to explore at a time!!Maybe i could suggest the owner a restart once in a while, so you don’t get stuck while trying to enjoy the beauty.

High heels make you look sexier and more elegant, yes…but sure it’s not the most suitable footwear to go sightseeing!!!!Veeery tired , with my poor pixelated feet hurting like hell, i thought it would be nice catching the train to the upper part of town.

Not being a resident, i had no idea of the train timetable, so i waited and waited…and soon started to need a restroom badly. Isn’t it funny how, the more you need to pee, the less likely you’re to find a bathroom?

Now Jops doesn’t wonder anymore why the sea was starting to look yellow!!!

Finally the train arrived. Seats weren’t too comfy i must say but hey, it is better than walking on 10 cm heels up hill!!!

I continued the trip til the last stop, up the hill, enjoying the astonishing beauty of the views and i found something totally unespected…a school!!!Verne didn’t come with us this time, but i will have to bring him soon. I am sure he’ll love this school, plus he can learn japanese to talk with Jops!!! (yes, Jops can talk japanese haha)

More to be shown soon…

And she closed her violet/blue eyes…

23 Mar

Elizabeth Taylor, one of the last stars from the old Hollywood sky, closed her amazing eyes today. She charmed everyone with her talent, her beauty, and her enormous personality. Strong, stubborn, eccentric, excessive and big hearted, always needing to give love even more than receiving, she married 8 times, shame she didn’t have time to go for the 9th.
Maybe it is because, when they were young, she and my mom could perfectly be twin sisters; maybe it is because i am a huge fan of those old glamourous hollywood classics…but i have cried for her today.
Hope wherever you go you find the happiness you always deserved.

Forever.

Luck O’ The Elvish

18 Mar

Luck: an unknown and unpredictable phenomenon that causes an event to result one way rather than another; “bad luck caused his downfall”; “we ran into each other by pure chance”

People have been trying to find ways to attract good luck through the centuries, and in every country or even culture there are objects that are known for “bringing” good luck to you: lucky charms.

Four leaf clover, rabbit’s foot, horsehoe, wishbone…which one is your fave? I personally do not have faith in any object. I think the most important thing is being positive, keeping in mind that even though you might have problems (as everyone else), all bad things have also a good side, and viceversa. I don’t know if it’s because i always try to look to the brighter side of my life, but i consider myself pretty lucky both in Second Life and in Real Life. You can wear all the lucky charms in the world, but if you’re whining all the time about what is wrong with your life without really moving a single finger to fix it…things aren’t likely to get better for you.

All this said, i do love clovers…and green colour is known to bring hope (at least in Spain).
Green and clovers…add some irish songs and a few pints of Guinness and you’re ready for St. Patrick’s day!!!

I chose spending this night in the Real Life, ‘cos RL pints are much tastier!!! Only thing is at least virtual alcochol doesn’t give you a huge hangover. Hope i can be in good condition to dj tonight at SL Addicts!!!!!!
