Turn off the tv and read a book

8 Aug

Yesterday i saw something on tv that socked me and made me wonder how will the future be when the teenagers of today become the adults of tomorrow.

This tv reporter was on the street, asking foreigners that were in the process to get the spanish nationality questions about Spain concerning history, culture, artists…ecc. They replied correctly most questions.

But, when she asked some spanish teenagers…the result was scary. Not only they didn’t know how many communities we have but, when asked about our civil war they replied stuff like:

– What war?

– Oh yes, civil war was between Spain and France (ermmm what part of CIVIL war you don’t understand?)

Then they thought 12th October was the anniversary of a football match between Spain and Malta, and that is why it is a National Holiday: because we won.

Not to mention i am sure most of them don’t even write spanish properly…how are they suppossed to learn another language?

Suddenly i felt embarrassed and, at the same time, very sorry for them. I do love internet and computers, and i do watch tv sometimes too, but i also enjoy reading a good book, watching a film, reading a newspaper to know what’s going on in the rest of the world…

And in other countries it’s not much better i believe. Still remember when some guy from Canada told me Barcelona is the capital of Spain, and many north americans think Spain is next to Mexico…

I am thankful for the education i received, both at school and from my parents. Even the television was better!!!

Hoping i am dead before those idiotized teenagers get to rule the world, i’ll leave you with a tribute to the tv show that trained my imagination when i was a kid. They said stuff like. turn off the tv and read a book. Those were the days when tv taught kids useful stuff, opened their imagination and their minds…

And yes, i’ll post some new fashion pics tomorrow.

Common People

3 Jul

One thing i’ve noticed about Second Life is that is has become a hideout for many, a place where they can be someone or something else or, what is more important, a place to be themselves without being scared of people judging them. And i am really glad some have found happiness here.

Furries, goreans, dwarves, elves, shemales and even child avies. I must say i am against child like avies because i don’t like the idea of an adult pretending he’s a kid. Call me old fashioned. But that is not what i want to write about today.

This availabily to create a character allows a few people to play some kind of role that has nothing to do with their real personality or that is how they really feel inside but never had the chance to express it in their real lives. And there’s is nothing wrong with it…unless you are doing it to be “cool” to others. Playing a role to please others in a virtual world when you can be anything else that makes YOU happy is a mistake some make too often.

I’ve seen average heterosexual women playing the role of a male trans, or even joke about being a nymphomaniac, or having “exotic” sexual preferences. And i repeat, there is nothing wrong with being a nymph, trans, or anything if that is really what YOU feel like or are on the inside. But i think pretending it just because you think it’s “cool” is wrong. I am glad to have friends of all kinds and conditions both in Second Life and Real Life, and some of them had a hard time dealing with their different ways of enjoying and living their sexuality. This is why pisses me off that someone thinks it’s funny for example being a nymphomanic when actually it is nothing fun at all.

This said, i’ll leave you this vid. The lyrics apply very well to how i feel now:

Changes

19 Jun

Some people say changes scare them as they prefer following their own old comfy routines, day after day…
For me changes are one of my fave spices to flavour my life. A change always allows you to live something new and, what is more important, learn something new.
Sooo…appart from some changes that i am veery looking forward in my life, i changed the layout of this blog, edited the new fashion section (check the “look at me” tab, and i am working on new stuff about Verne and…the shapeshifter ;p

Of course i’d like to know your oppinion on the new blog, so go ahead and tell me. I am still working on it, but they say two brains work better than one…

Oh, and today i’ll start djing in a new club!!!!

Been working on the setlist , and i am pretty excited with the result. Hope you like it and that you join me!!

The name of the club is Rock U: The University Of Rock, and i am ready to teach you a thing…or two!

Wanna come? You can find your taxi here .

Jump up Jump up (and get down)

12 Jun

One of the best things about Second Life is being able to perform acts and live experiences you forgot about or never had the chance to. Great creators have helped creating a whole universe to live, explore, and enjoy…and allow us to create our fantasy world ourselves using their creations.

I love decorating in real life, so how could i not love it in Second Life? And it is much easier (and cheaper) changing decoration in a virtual world , at least you don’t need anyone to help you moving furniture!

I bet you all have seen many beds in sl with great sex animations, some even have sound (which in my oppinion is awful), and the typical cuddling stuff. But i never found before a bed with a jumping animation!!!

And i think fits perfectly in my new treehouse!!!

Yes, i know i said i’d post pics of my new place but i want to make a proper phototour, and i want Karm to see it inworld first. For now i am going to edit a section of this blog. One of the pages will be dedicated to fashion, styling and so. Since i get some people asking me inworld where i buy my stuff (and since i don’t mind people “copying” my clothes) i will post pictures with directions to where to get my clothing and hair.

I will leave you with a video of one of those “one hit wonders”, one that reminds me of when i was…well, younger.

Jump around!!!!

Resign

2 Jun

Every offer’s gathered on the floor
Neatly piled up in the hall
Guiding voices on the phone
They’ll probably never ever leave you alone
Or ever leave you at all

Information by the pound
New directions oh so profound
Close to being lost at sea
Of suggestive misery
And no matter what you do
There’s always someone
knowing better than you
But that’s fine, So fine
You always have the right to end it
And resign

Refried visions in an envelope
Messages awaiting in the night
On a cover of a magazine
On the front of where you need to be seen
Expecting you to do right

Information by the pound
A sea of suggestion
In which you can drown
New ideas like you
Wouldn’t believe
You oughta try it
It will set you free
The hints are being
Shoved down your throat
We’re all in this together
So don’t rock the boat
But that’s fine, so fine
You always have the right
To end it, and resign

Fantasy Faire and Relay For Life: The Power Of Imagination

16 Apr

Sorry everyone for the delay, but i’ve had a busy and lazy week at the same time. Hope you have had a great week and are starting a nice weekend!

This said, i must show you all how amazing was the Fantasy Faire event that took part in Second Life. Proving not only that SL is not only a game for fun, but it can bring people together to raise funds for a good cause: helping others fight against cancer. Due to several circumstances i payed my visit the last day and i have to say i regret not visiting earlier, with plenty of time to explore.

Taken from the Fantasy Fair press note:

Started three years ago as a benefit for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society, the Fantasy Faire of Second Life has raised more than $25,000 USD. For 2011 the goal of the Faire team, Friends Fighting Cancer, is to nearly double that amount by raising an additional $20,000 USD.

The Fantasy Faire 2011 features eight themed shopping sims, and a separate Events and Auctions sim which will border the American Cancer Society Island for the entire run of the Faire.

Twelve designers have worked, some alone, some in tandem, to create the Faire sims. They have had less than a month to develop and less than a week to install nine sims that are each a testament to their talents as builders and artists and to the spirit of Relay for Life.

Over 150 of Seconds Life’s top fantasy creators line the paths of the shopping sims, with a range of genres and styles from Elven, Fae, Steampunk, Mer, Goth, SciFi, and the gamut from tinies to Dragons. Every sim is a melange of elements and from door to door you’ll find clothing, avatars, furnishings, pre-fab houses and the kitchen sink filled with gooey chocolate.”

If you want, you can also find Relay For Life in Second Life

And now i will guide you through the 8 sims, shame just a few pics of my fave places can’t express all the beauty and the peace i found while capturing these images:

-Dark Mirage Sim:

This is where i chose to start my trip. It’s a dark, magical sim with a kinda arabian taste. Think kinda art deco and arabian pieces and mysterious landscaping and you might get a bit of the taste it had, at least for me. My fave spot?:

-Enchanted Mysts:

The place i chose to rest a bit before continuing the journey. Classy beautifully crafted buildings surrounded by elven like landscape, totally worth taking some time to just relax and enjoy.

-Exotic Worlds:

Interactive sim full of secret places to explore and delight yourself. Definetely one of my fave sims!!!

-Fantastical and Magical sim:

Faerie tales? That paradise you dreamed about when you were a kid? This sim brings together everything you could dream about when your imagination ruled your world. I felt like a little girl in a toy store 🙂

-Forest of Light:

Fantastic creatures in an enchanted forest where anyone would like to get lost for a while.

-Forest of Shadow:

Deep dark astonishing forest, no matter how deep you explore, you’ll always find something capturing your attention and not letting you go.

-Nemo Revisited:

A true tribute to Verne and the era of inventions. My fave part was the submarine where i found Nemo’s workshop:

Neptune was showing the way to the next sim…

-Sea of Mer:

The paradise any mermaid would love living in. To enjoy it appropiately i chose to become a mermaid myself using my Merlust outfit by Panda Express , mermaid skin by The Plastik and the Aloha hair by Truth Hair.
This was the sim where i spent most time, selected my fave pics to show you:

And this is all, sorry for the long post but didnt want to miss anything. I’d like to thank the creators of this huge event for their hard work and the amazing effort they’ve made to raise funds for a cause that really touches my heart.

The Wasp & The Butterfly

22 Mar

I’ve always thought butterflies are one of the most beautiful creatures on earth. I even have one tattooed since the day i turned 18 years old (yes, that’s a while ago now ;p). One could think they’re fragile and it’s true they don’t have a long life but, despite their gracefulness, some of them can do amazing things.
The Monarch migrates over long distances and creates an amazing natural spectacle every year. Some have developed symbiotic and parasitic relationships with social insects such as ants. Even though some species can damage domestic crops or trees, others are agents of pollination of some plants, and even eat harmful insects. Not to mention the times their image has been used by artists over the centuries.

Today i found this fable by Aesop (translated by Laura Gibbs), and i want to share it with you:

———–The Wasp & The Butterfly————

A butterfly noticed a wasp flying by and exclaimed, ‘What an unfair turn of events this is! In our previous lifetimes, when we inhabited the bodies from whose mortal remains we received our souls, I was the one who spoke eloquently in times of peace and fought bravely in war, and I was first among my fellows in all of the arts! Yet look at me now, an utter frivolity, crumbling into ashes as I flutter here and there. You, on the other hand, were formerly a mule, a beast of burden, yet now you stab and wound anyone you want with your sting.’ The wasp then uttered words that are worth repeating: ‘It does not matter what we used to be: the important thing is what we are now!’

Note: This fable derives from the ancient belief that wasps would spring from the carcass of a dead mule or horse (e.g. Aelian, Characteristics of Animals 1.28), while a spirit or ‘psyche’ would take shape in the form of a butterfly (Aristotle, History of Animals 551a).
